What homo would shop at Walmart anyway?

Now come on most of us homos are shopping at Target anyway!

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest gay rights group, is giving Wal-Mart a red "do not buy" rating in its new consumer guide, bestowing a lump of coal on the retail giant just in time for the holiday shopping season.
Citing Wal-Mart's refusal to offer domestic partner benefits to its gay and lesbian workers, the HRC said Tuesday that the USA's biggest private employer has "more work to do in furthering equality." It advised gays and their supporters to shop elsewhere.(source)

Q&A with Luke/Noah ATWT

Despite the fact it is 2007, same-sex couples on broadcast television are so unusual as to still be considered a Very Big Deal. But a gay male teen couple on a daytime soap? That constitutes an actual milestone in gay visibility.
Earlier this year, CBS’ As the World Turns made that breakthrough when Luke Snyder (Van Hansis) fell hard for newcomer Noah Mayer (Jake Silbermann). And viewers fell just as hard for the couple quickly naming them Nuke as their growing popularity helped to push the show’s ratings up. In fact, Nuke became so popular that a recent poll named them the most popular couple on ATWT and one of the seven hottest couples on all of daytime television.

Awww how sweet!

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the royalty of Davis Senior High School's junior class: Brandon Raphael and his prince, Kiernan Gatewood.
For what appears to be the first time in school history, the Davis Senior High student body has elected a gay couple into homecoming royalty. With each boasting a white sash declaring his title as "Prince," the two 16-year-olds rode through the city of Davis Friday afternoon in the school's annual homecoming parade.
They stood in the back of a pickup truck, arm-in-arm, smiling warmly despite the rain. (read more)

ATWT: Jake Silbermann Interview

~Interview from AfterElton.com~
As the World Turns hit the airwaves over fifty years ago. In the time since, the show has had its share of TV firsts ... and it's about to have another. For the first time ever on a daytime drama, we're about to get a bona fide teen gay male couple. For some time now, we've watched as Luke Snyder come out to his friends and family. For a genre not known for its subtlety, his coming out journey has been surprisingly realistic and poignant. Luke wasn't the first gay male character on the show, but he has been the first to come from a central family and receive a significant story arc of his own.
A few weeks ago, the show added Jake Silbermann as Noah Mayer, an intern at the TV station at which Luke and his friend Maddie are working for the summer. Luke has been fighting his growing attraction to the seemingly straight Noah, especially as Noah started a romance with Maddie. But last week the boys did some sparking of their own when they ended up shirtless and in one another's arms. And now the kiss!

Here is some of the interview below, with the rest by following the link.

AE: So often when a show adds a gay character, that's the only gay character on the show. But ATWT already has Luke, played by Van Hansis. Did Van take you under his wing and tell you what to expect?
JS: Both Van and Alex [Alexandra Chando who plays Maddie Coleman], who I work with a lot, they've been at this longer than I have. Generally, you learn from the people around you, and yeah, absolutely, I've learned a whole lot from both of them.
AE: I assume you knew you were auditioning for a gay role? How did you feel about the prospect of playing a gay character?

JS: I was excited. It sounded like a really different role for daytime, which it is. I was really excited about that.

AE: Can you give us a hint about what's next for the two of them? JS: The story is really about to just pick up. After the kiss, it's really just beginning for them. I think there's a lot of great stuff on the horizon. I don't want to hint too much because part of the fun is not knowing.

GOP Strategist Among 3 Found Dead w/ a possible gay twist.

There are now unconfirmed reports out that two of them might have been lovers. hrrmmm how ironic.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Republican political strategist was identified as one of three people found dead inside a home in east Orange County on Thursday.
The bodies were found at 2420 Hickory Oak Blvd. in the Hickory Cove subdivision, Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jim Solomons said.
The mother of Ralph Gonzalez traveled from Miami to identify the body of her son, who was a popular GOP strategist and former executive director of the Georgia Republican Party.

"I have no idea. I couldn't believe it. I was shocked. I said, 'This can't be my son. Why my son? Why?' Eva Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez was among the three people found inside the home, and their bodies may have been inside since Tuesday, authorities said.

"The third person was the shooter. He shot my son first and then shot David and then killed himself," Eva Gonzalez said.

The last time Gonzalez spoke to her son was Tuesday, she said, and his best friend called her on Thursday to give her the bad news.

From his home, Ralph Gonzalez operated the Strategum Group, a political consulting firm. His list of clients included U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney, R-Fla.
"Ralph was a friend of mine, and we're hearing about this tragedy through the news. It's a terrible tragedy, and Ralph is a dear friend," Feeney said.
Feeney said he had known Ralph Gonzalez since he was a young man working as a legislative intern. He was a man Feeney would eventually hire.
Nancy Patterson of the Republican Party Committee hired Gonzalez when she ran for the Florida Senate in 1994. Patterson said he was right out of college, broke and brilliant.
"He could quote facts and figures from preseidential races 25 years ago," Patterson said.
"When you see somebody and you have these great memories, it's a bit hard," Patterson said.
"He was a very sharp fellow. He grew into a mature, capable, very bright political consultant. He's done a lot of work for me over the years," Feeney said.
"It was his passion. It was his life," political activist Doug Guetzloe said.
Ralph Gonzalez was a native of Miami. The other victims were identified as David Abrami and Robert Drake. Gonzalez lived in the home with Abrami, and Drake was a former roommate who was visiting from out of town.
"(It was) horrible. I can't believe he lied in there, and the more I see all that blood, it was sickening. Why would anybody want to shoot my boy?" Eva Gonzalez said.
Officials with the Orange County Sheriff's Office haven't released a motive yet for the deaths. Authorities said they received a call from a woman from North Carolina asking them to check on the well-being of a friend in the home. They found the bodies when they arrived, as well as an open garage door.
There was no sign of forced entry, and one body was found near the entrance of home.
Detectives at the scene said they believe a dispute might have occurred, and they said weapons were found inside the home.
"There is some early evidence that suggests this may be a murder-suicide," Orange County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Allen Lee said.
Investigators are talking with neighbors to try to figure out exactly what happened. Neighbors said they knew little about the two men who lived there, and they only heard dogs barking in the yard.
"I think I would have went next door and asked them about the dogs barking because, like I said, they were barking all night long, and I've never heard that before. So now I look back, and I wish that I would have went to his door," neighbor Cindy Bargar said.
"It's real sad, you know. It should have never happened. Period. You know, they were nice gentlemen," neighbor Ray Perez said.
Investigators elected not to have a media briefing on Friday as planned. They said they do not anticipate releasing any additional details regarding the case Friday or over the weekend. (source)

My college town is going gay ;)

AKRON, Ohio -- Akron wants to encourage gay travelers to spend time and money in the area.
The local convention and visitors bureau plans to meet next week with gay-owned and gay-friendly businesses to talk about incentives and promotions for luring gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender visitors.
It's a market that spends about $55 billion a year on travel, according to the Travel Industry Association of America.
The chairman of the Akron-Area Pride Collective said there are plenty of reasons why gays would want to visit the community, including West Akron's historic Highland Square neighborhood.

Bush picks another winner!

President Bush's nominee for surgeon general insisted Thursday that he
harbors no bias against homosexuals in spite of his 1991 writings viewed by some
as anti-gay.
Dr. James Holsinger faced tough questioning at his Senate
confirmation hearing over his views on homosexuality and how he would react if
he were pressured to put politics ahead of science in his role as the nation's
doctor.
"I would resign," Holsinger said emphatically.
Concerns about his
independence were spurred by former Surgeon General Richard Carmona's testimony
two days earlier that the Bush administration muzzled him on issues such as
abstinence education and stem-cell research because of politics.
A vote on
the nomination of Holsinger, a Kentucky doctor, wasn't expected for several
weeks.
At Thursday's hearing, he distanced himself from a paper he wrote 16
years ago that has been attacked by gay rights organizations and public health
experts as inaccurate and inflammatory. The paper cited data showing elevated
rates of disease among gay men, but some medical experts say he completely
ignored other data that would contradict the paper's point that homosexuality is
an abnormal function.
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, chairman of the Senate Health,
Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, asked Holsinger on several occasions to
address various aspects of his paper on homosexuality for a study committee of
the United Methodist Church.
"Dr. Holsinger's paper cherry picks and misuses
data to support his thesis that homosexuality is unhealthy and unnatural,"
Kennedy, D-Mass., said.
Holsinger said it was not intended to be a scientific
paper and that he relied on the information available to him at the
time.
"First of all, the paper does not represent where I am today. It does
not represent who I am today," Holsinger said.

Food for thought

New York State could reap an economic windfall of nearly $200 million if it legalized same-sex marriage, mostly from spending by out-of-town visitors who would come to get married or to attend a wedding, a study released Tuesday has found.City Comptroller William Thompson's study estimated that legalizing gay marriage would generate $184 million in net revenue for the state over the first three years after such a law took effect. Of that, $142 million would be generated in New York City.(source)

Slumming it up!

In two weeks Gay Days is here in Orlando. We always have a good time and look forward to it every year. Last year my mother was a wonderful and got my friend and I a one bedroom villa at Disney's Saratoga Springs which is located across from Downtown Disney, which was great for stumbling home after a night of drinking at Pleasure Island. This year I have been spending a little to much money and need to tighten the purse strings and since all we really need is a bed to sleep in on disney property so we can partake in the free transporation I will be slumming it up for the first time at a value resort, but at least it will be Pop Century so that could be fun.

Happy Belated Birthday Chris Meloni

I am a day late wishing Chris a Happy Birthday, I have always had a thing for Chris. I am already a big Law and Order Fan anyway, but he is just icing on the cake!!!!! Not to mention he was great in the OZ series and a great friend to the gay and lesbian community. He was honored last year at the HRC gala and presented The Human Rights Campaign Equality Award.
