Gay candidate for mayor in Dallas

DALLAS (Reuters) - Is a city closely associated with cowboys, family values and social conservatism ready to make history by electing a man who is openly gay as mayor?
Dallas voters will answer that question on Saturday as they choose between Democratic party-endorsed gay candidate Ed Oakley and nonpartisan Tom Leppert in a run-off race to replace outgoing mayor Laura Miller.

If Oakley wins, he would become the first openly gay man to be elected mayor of a major U.S. city, according to the Gay and Lesbian Task Force, a Washington-based gay rights group.

Tomorrow my roommate is leaving for Texas to visit with his family for 8 days. Of course he had to get an early flight which would cause me to have to get up at 5am in morning. I usually do not go to bed till 2am so hopefully 3 hours of sleep is adequate?

My Monitor Blows

Last night I came home from work and took a nap, I got up and decided to get a little computer time in. My screen would not come on so I simply rebooted the computer and still the screen would not work, I looked at the cords, the power source, ect. Well in a frantic I run to best buy and purchase a new 19 inch lcd screen and get home and there is no vgb cord. I was so pissed and it was now 10pm and everything was closed. Well finally today I got my new cord and I am back in business, awww I am happy now! It is a Samsung and almost matched my 32 inch tv that is hanging on my wall.

To much fun...

I think I had to much fun this weekend, I have a cold now and just went to the store to get some medicine. The choices are daunting, as I went through the aisles I pondered "do I get the meds with the Pseudoephedrine or without? Or maybe the nightime formula to make me go to sleep?" I decided on the non drowsy formula and also through a pack of cold eeze into the mix.

Boost the next Viagra?

A Manhattan man is suing the maker of an energy drink that allegedly gave his manhood a most unwelcome boost.
Christopher Woods was allegedly left with a painful "erection that would not subside" after he drank Boost Plus, a protein drink that comes in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.
The lactose-free liquid - whose slogan is "Energy to Embrace Life!" - is touted by its manufacturer for its ability to "help build muscles and skin."
But Woods is blaming the concoction for the "severe bodily injuries" he allegedly suffered after drinking the stuff on June 5, 2004.
The 29-year-old Harlem man awoke a day later with an unrelenting erection that, according to the lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, needed to be treated with a shunt. (source)

Food for thought

New York State could reap an economic windfall of nearly $200 million if it legalized same-sex marriage, mostly from spending by out-of-town visitors who would come to get married or to attend a wedding, a study released Tuesday has found.City Comptroller William Thompson's study estimated that legalizing gay marriage would generate $184 million in net revenue for the state over the first three years after such a law took effect. Of that, $142 million would be generated in New York City.(source)

Artist Sironi's Heir Threatens to Cancel Gift Over Gay Funding

June 5 (Bloomberg) -- The heir of Italian artist Mario Sironi (1885-1961) says he won't donate about 5,000 of his grandfather's drawings to Milan after Mayor Letizia Moratti objected to a gay- and-lesbian festival being held in the city.
That's even as the 21st International Festival of Gay and Lesbian Cinema's spokesman Toni Aventino today said that the city's culture and leisure-time aldermen will probably sign a document guaranteeing donations totaling 20,000 euros ($26,000).
``Italy is taking steps backward while other parts of Europe are advancing,'' Andrea Sironi said by telephone. ``Italy is antiquated with its moralism.''
Moratti, elected in 2006 on the ticket of center-right party Forza Italia, last year withdrew city sponsorship of a gay tennis tournament held in the city since 1999, the weekly magazine L'Espresso said on its Web site. She gave no explanation for her stance on the film festival other than saying ``we're not giving sponsorship,'' L'Espresso reported.
If Moratti grants the money and goes public with a more pro- gay stance Sironi is open to donating the artworks.
``I'm not stubborn,'' he said. ``If she goes back on her decision, I don't see why I can't change my mind.''
Sironi yesterday released a letter condemning Moratti's move to withhold financing for the film festival, saying the city can have his grandfather's works only after she leaves office.
The 21st International Festival of Gay and Lesbian Cinema opened on June 1 and runs through June 7.
